Our Story
Our story began with one mother’s fight for her son. As a Black parent of a child with disabilities
living in a rural area, our founder witnessed firsthand the injustices children of diverse ethnic
backgrounds face in education, healthcare, and public systems.
Her son endured mistreatment, neglect, and exclusion in institutions meant to support him. Navigating
these systems revealed a deep and urgent need—not just for better policies, but for a supportive
community to stand by families like hers.
What started as a personal mission grew into a powerful movement. Through partnerships with advocacy
groups, legal experts, and reform-minded institutions, KOILS has helped push for new protections and
policy changes—especially for historically underrepresented communities.
